6 Week Check Up

Alli went today for her 6 week check up with Dr. McCollum. I'm really starting to like our pediatrician the more I'm around him. He is really good and loving with her. He makes sure to answer any questions we have. He has also made a big point today to really tell me what good a job we're doing on pumping and making sure she is getting the nutrition she needs through breast milk. We had talked last time about him wanting me to talk with the lactation consultatant about trying to breast feed. We had a lot of problems with latching and it just wasn't working. We've decided to exclusively pump and that has been working just fine for us. Yes, it is more work...but she is getting the food she needs and I'll do whatever I need to do. He said that pumping is great and he's really proud of me. Alli today weighed a WHOPPING 10 lbs 9.5 oz. She is also measuring 20.5 inches! My baby girl is getting huge! Dr. McCollum said she is in the 70th percentile for her weight. She has gained much quicker than expected. I knew she was because she LOVES to eat. We are going to try to encourage her to skip a night time feeding by just changing her and consoling her back to bed. This way we can maybe drop one of her feedings and keep her weight growth more to where it should be. He isn't concerned right now but we will want to make sure she doesn't continue to grow at this pace once she is 5-9 months old. So we will keep an eye on it. He said she looks great! Her shots were not bad at all either. She got 6 shots in all but some were combined together and one was in liquid form so she only got poked 3 times. She didn't like it but she consoled quickly. So now we are good until middle of November for her 4 month check up. I will try to take some pictures soon of our chunker!

Most people know this already but Ben had surgery yesterday for an appendicitis. It was very unexpected as most appendix problems are but it was taken care of quickly and he is home and slowly recovering. He is in a lot of pain today but it is getting better. His dad wonders if this is something that's been slowly flaring for a while now. It could have been what's called a groaning appendix where it would flare up but not ever turn into a full fledged appendicitis. This "could" be what's been causing Ben's stomach issues. If that's the case...man it would be so great for Ben to be back to normal without all his stomach problems. He would really love that! So we are hoping this was the case because he's been dealing with this the entire time we've been married! Anway, we'll see.

Don't worry about how she's growing as long as she is! :) My boys are way off the chart on everything except the head measurements and always have been. She'll go through sputs of being "normal" and then above normal. But she sounds very healthy! :) Good job!
